Time-Saving Tuesdays – Morrisons Macaroni Cheese

Time-Saving Tuesdays – Morrisons Macaroni Cheese – Front Packaging

Ok so I look like I’m addicted to Macaroni Cheese, I’ve reviewed three so far. On 11th August 2014 I reviewed Asda Macaroni Cheese, I wasn’t overly impressed with it, in fact my words were that I “felt a bit let down by this as I was quite looking forward to it”. I then reviewed Tesco Everyday Value Macaroni Cheese on 22nd September 2014, I said that there was a topping missing and that it needed “lots more seasoning needed to be added to this to make it tasty”. So let us see if things can get better with this one.

I’m not going to lie my photographs are horrific of this ready meal, Greg would say my photographs are always horrific lol, I can’t take a good photo to save my life.

The picture I took of the nutritional information is very blurred, so I’ve taken a screen shot of it below, this picture also includes the ingredients.

The ingredient list didn’t throw up anything that I hadn’t seen in any other lists but I do worry about eating something that is called “Nicotinic Acid” and “Thiamin”… what are these, well I’ve decided to tweet Morisons, and the other Ready Meal manufacturers that I review to see what they say…. let’s wait and see what they say!

The screen shot above is taken from the Morrisons website and shows that the cooking instructions are clear and include my cronky old microwave. On the packet the instructions are clear and laid out well, including the oven instructions which is always a bonus.

The picture above shows the cooking instructions taken from the actual packet…. as opposed to downloaded from the net. It shows how clear the packaging was and how easy the cooking instructions were to follow.

Time-Saving Tuesdays – Morrisons Macaroni Cheese – Ready to eat

You’ll remember I reviewed Asda’s Rockin Chilli & Chorizo Mac and Cheese on on 22nd July this year. I gave that one a 6 out of 10, it was marked down because it had to go in the oven, however, it had great taste and a warming level of heat from the spices and the Chorizo.6 stars

This one too had nice warmth to it, warmth that was comforting. There was a texture on top which I actually thought was breadcrumbs but it wasn’t. The sauce was cheesey and rich and just what you’d want on a cold winter’s night. The heat came from the mustard which added a good depth of flavour to it, my only real negative was that I thought the texture could have been improved. Like some of the previous Macaroni Cheese I’ve reviewed it was a bit congealed and claggy. However, it was still a very tasty meal.

Time-Saving Tuesdays – Asda Rockin Chilli & Chorizo Mac Cheese (Belated)

Ok, I know it’s not Tuesday but it’s not far off… and it’s worth the wait lol!  Today’s post is an interesting one, I’m not sure if it counts as being Time-Saving but we’ll give it a go!

Actually, thinking about it I suppose it is Time-Saving because it only takes about 30 minutes in total but you do have to cook it in the oven. On the plus side, it is just a case of whacking it in the oven and away to go, well apart from peeling the lid off after 15 minutes, see the cooking instructions below:

Like the Asda Pasta Bolognes Bake I wasn’t really looking forward to this one, and… like that post I was well and truly wrong! It was rich and tasty, here is the ingredient list and nutritional information.

The package described this as being:

Macaroni Pasta in a spicy cheese sauce with Chorizo and topped with a Chilli Cheese Crumb

This was another stunner, it was so tasty. It had spice, deep tastes of chorizo which was had tastes of smoked paprika. It also had the deep cheesey taste which made it comforting. It did have B3 and B1 (Niacin and Thiamin) as ingredients, so this provokes more thought. On the whole I’d give this a 6/7 out of ten, I’ve gone with 6 because it uses the oven but I’d certainly buy it again!6 stars

Later on in the week we’ve got my review on the Cardigan Bay Fish Festival 2015 and my dreams of expanding Wheelie Good Meals. Thanks for stopping by, good luck to my mate Greg for his tour of Under Milk Wood, I’m going today so I’ll let you know how it goes. Greg and I went to the Fish Festival again this year, you’ll see his photos soon!  For now, read last year’s Cardigan Bay Fish Festival Review.  Greg gave an excellent portrayal of Edgar Linton in The Caerphilly Players performance of Wurthering Heights – I’m very proud of him and I’m sure they’re all going to be amazing (The Butchers Arms Boy!)

Ready Meal Monday - Tesco Macaroni Cheese In Its Box

Ready Meal Monday – Tesco Macaroni Cheese

Well you’ll be surprised to see I’m on time for Ready Meal Monday, you’ll notice I’ve been working on my photography for my recipes but, I’ve tried to keep it plain and simple (that sounds like a name for a song… oh no wait that was Pure and Simple!) I want to keep it clear and unedited because that gives you a better understanding of the ready meal. Before I go off onto my Macaroni Cheese off, I must make a correction to a previous post, the astute of you out there will have noticed that I’ve not eaten a Bovril Ready Meal it’s been Bisto…. aahh Bisto, well I promise to may more attention in class and get it right in future 🙂

Ready Meal Monday – Tesco Macaroni Cheese In Its Box

This weeks Macaroni Cheese was from Tesco, it was labelled as being:

Macaroni in a rich cheese sauce, with a grated cheese topping.

I reviewed Asda Macaroni Cheese on 11th August 2014 (see review here). You’ll remember that I wasn’t overly impressed with Asda’s attempt so the big question was Tesco’s any better, well not really. It could be argued that the sauce had a little bit of taste to it, but, in my mind nothing to write home about. The main thing that Asda Macaroni Cheese had in it’s favour was the nutritional information (see below) you’ll notice in the comparison further below Asda had 10 less calories and 1.1 grams of fat and 0.5 grams less of saturated fat. This, in my unprofessional opinion means that Asda comes out healthier.

You’ll see in the picture below I’ve included cooking instructions for both Microwave and Oven. As you know I use a microwave. I found the cooking instructions for this much easier to fathom out and hopefully you will to.

You’ll notice in the picture below that the pasta isn’t congealed but there did not appear to be a topping of grated cheese which i was disappointed about. On the whole I think lots more seasoning needed to be added to this to make it tasty.

Before we get into the finer details (well there aren’t any finer details really) I’ve got to say that I’ve not been asked by Asda to advertise this Ready Meal.  Neither, I or Wheelie Good Meals work with any brands and as you all know if we did you’d all be the first to know

So I had Macaroni Cheese recently, it was a frozen ready meal from Asda as that’s where my parents shop.  This was in my freezer so as I’m on this “Ready Meal Monday” mission I thought I’d give this a go…. how bad could it be.  Well it was fairly bad in my opinion, I cooked it as per the cooking instructions (see below) but found it to be congealed, it was quite odd really, the parts that weren’t congealed were ok but the congealed bits were bland and quite rubbery.  This is one of the ready meals I’ve tried that I do intend to recreate, I felt a bit let down by this as I was quite looking forward to it – I wouldn’t choose this one again.  See below for ingredients and nutritional information
