Time-Saving Tuesdays – John West Tuna Infusion Steam Pot – Front Of The Package

I’m sorry that there was nothing coming last week, I’ve had a hectic few days, including a visit from my lovely niece Alice. You’ll probably know by now that Alice has been partying studying in France for the last ten months through her university course, but now she’s home! I’d missed her, although, if I’m honest, I probably spoke more to her when she was in the land of onion and garlic than I ever did when she was home 😆 . We did lots of cooking while she was up, some was very, very successful – some was utterly disastrous… you’ll know about it all soon enough 😆 !

This review is the other John West Infusion Pot I bought, you’ll remember I reviewed the Infusion Pot which was Tuna with Coriander & Cumin and Lime and Coriander Cous Cous.

Time-Saving Tuesdays – John West Tuna Infusion Steam Pot – The Two Pots

This was a great quick and easy snack, I really love the idea of the two little pots and with the tuna, it ticks all the boxes for me. This one was a bit of a surprise because it has mushrooms in it… come all we all know I don’t like Mr Legumes, but taking one for the team I decided I’d buy this one and review it.

The instructions are easy to follow, they’re exactly the same as the other one we’ve reviewed in the past. As I’ve said in my previous post it is a glorified pot noodle really J it’s made in the same way… simple!

Water is added to the dry couscous and the lid is replaced it only takes about five minutes once the lid is replaced. Open the tin of tuna, I’ll admit it doesn’t look the friendliest, some would say it looks like cat food but trust me it doesn’t taste like it.

When the five minutes is up mix the two together, you can, like me eat it from the pot or have it in a nice little bowl… you choose! Below you can find the nutritional values for this Steam Pot, each pot contains 413 calories and 10 grams of fat (1.4 grams of saturated fat) and 1.4 grams of salt.

This was an excellent quick and easy snack, it’s quite filling and takes next to no time to prepare. The packaging describes it as

Tuna flakes with a little soy sauce and ginger infused extra virgin olive oil (5%) and mushroom couscous

I love the whole soy ginger flavour combination, I’ve used it before in Soy Chilli and Ginger Trout Recipe. I can’t say I noticed the mushrooms in this recipe so they didn’t really bother me lol

It’s time for take two in our weekly Time-Saving Tuesdays Feature, this is one that’s a bit different as it’s a sort of snack pot type thing. It’s an infusion pot by John West. As it says in the picture above it’s a Tuna Infusions with Coriander and Cumin with Lime and Coriander Couscous.

You’ll notice from the above picture it comes in two cute little pots, the bottom one contains the couscous and the top contains the fish. The cooking instructions are absolutely fool proof and take next to no time really which… as it’s meant to be time saving… is a bonus 😆

You can see that the steps are easy, there are lots of little tips dotted around the packet, like “Take care! Pot may be hot” You can find out more about this one here.

Like a pot noodle you have to fill the larger pot with boiling water, don’t do what I did and pull the cardboard outside off because that means you can’t see the flipping line 😀

You’ll notice the line in the picture on the left, you may be able to notice on the picture on the right (bad picture I know, scrap that they’re both bad 😳 ) that I had ripped the label … my mother wasn’t impressed. In my defence there was a perforation (not sure what for) and I was still able to make the line out lol (approx 135ml water). Once filled, give it a stir, then place the lid on and leave it steam for five minutes.

I know the above image could be confused with cat food (sorry John West) but it doesn’t look the best. Don’t judge a book by it’s….metallic ring pull bearing lid 😆 ! After the couscous has had five minutes stir in the above pot of loveliness, you should do this while it’s hot.

Below it is it in all it’s glory:

The packaging is quite descriptive of the product, it says:

Looking for something that’s easy to prepare, warm, filling and packed full of flavour? John West Steam Pots are the answer.

We’ve paired our Tuna Infusions with a pot of perfectly seasoned couscous to create a fast filling and flavoursome lunch. This one is a feast from the east!

This really does do what it says on the cardboard box, it’s two little pots of pleasurable loveliness. There is an excellent combination of flavours, the couscous is light and fluffy the tuna is tasty with a great flavour of coriander and the lime cuts through everything,. The flavours were delicate, not too heavy, it didn’t smack you in the face like a wet kipper. I personally have my moments with Coriander but it was great in this, not too overpowering.

Our next recipe will be another Comfort Classics, it’ll be my version on a really easy and quick Shepherds Pie. Until then enjoy the John West Tuna Infusions Steam Pot, if you like tuna remember I’ve made a Char-Char-Char-Grilled Tuna as part of my #StrictlySuppers feature, you can find it here.

See You Soon.
